Collection: Slow Fashion
With a deep love for sewing and sustainability, it was inevitable that Seaside Squirrel would pivot to dressmaking.
After teaching herself how to use a sewing machine during the COVID lockdown, Lauren started experimenting with techniques and fabrics, eventually signing up to an evening class in dressmaking. The following year, she was signed up for a three year course in fashion design, learning skills as varied as pattern drafting, couture techniques, and creative experimentation.
Seaside Squirrel's focus is on using earth-friendly materials - natural, biodegradable fibres and textiles like cotton, linen, and wool, as well as deadstock or repurposed fabrics sourced responsibly from small independent UK and Irish suppliers.
Our garments are designed and crafted with intention, reducing waste as feasibly as possible, designing timeless styles rather than following fleeting trends. We know too well how disastrous the consequences of fast fashion has on the environment and garments workers (to learn more about fast fashion, check out our blog A Sustainable Wardrobe).
Seaside Squirrel actively rejects the mass-production model of fast-fashion in favour of slow, earth-friendly craftsmanship, choosing to focuses on intentional, small-batch creation. Every piece is designed for durability and low environmental impact.
